5. Gallaher Bend Greenway

Description: This greenway offers a quiet, forested trail with lovely vistas of Melton Lake. Because it is on federal land, users must remain on the trail and obey all postings.
Trail surface: Gravel, with natural path around loop and short paved section before entrance.
Elevation: 805' to 920'
Difficulty: Easy to moderate
Handicap Access: Yes, but gravel surface inhibits wheelchair access
Distance: 4.5 miles (round trip)
Main Entrances: Winter -- gate east of swimming area Summer -- swimming area parking
Uses: Walk/jog, pets, bicycles

Map legend/rules

Beware. This area is closed for deer hunts three weekends each fall and several spring weekends for turkey hunts. For 2016, the area is closed dawn til noon, April 2, April 9-10 and 16-17. For exact dates, please refer to reservation hunts. In the fall 2017, the area is closed Nov 4-5, 11-12, and Dec 9-10. In addition, the area is closed the Saturday before each scheduled hunt weekend for scouting. In 2007, the gravel was extended in the field to the end of the loop.
