Tennessee's deepest sinkhole Big Sink
You can mouse over the two 10m DEM grid elements in the map above to see the low point (1427.53') in Big Sink and the "least upper bound" of 1688.93', yielding a depth of 261.4' for Tennessee's deepest sinkhole.

In 2013, Chuck Sutherland used ArcMap with Spatial Analyst to characterize Tennessee's sinkholes using 10m DEM data. ArcMap confirmed that this is Tenneessee's deepest sinkhole with a depth of 260.5'. TN 2017 LiDar data reports Big Sink low point of 1426.22' at 36.039480,-85.387902 for a depth of 262.7' with spill point (1688.93') at 36.03879,-85.38542. Other digital data (10m DEM) on this sinkhole:
   weighted centroid: 36.03961349310,-85.3903572395
   Area: 0.66 km2
   Perimeter: 4.08 km
   Depth: 79.4 m, boundary
   Volume: 3113525 m3
   Low: 435.1 m
   High: 514.4 m

☹ Sadly, the microsoft terraserver (MSTopo) USGS topo map server is no longer active. The MSTopo had a higher resolution topo and was the base layer for the google map above. To zoom in try selecting the ArcGIS topo base map.

The grid of elevation points is based on older generations (e.g., 2009) of USGS 10M DEM data. See naionalmap elevation data.
