Friends of Haw Ridge 1 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes from March 25, 2002: *New Trail Map: A big THANK YOU to Chris Pyle who painstakingly created an awesome new Haw Ridge trail and topo map! Last week, Chris, Steve White, and Joanne Grimes installed the large laminated map behind Plexiglas on the kiosk. Chris also made trail maps for the local bike shops. Boyd and the LDC have keys for the kiosk. *New Trails / Jumps: A written statement from Josh Collins and the City of Oak Ridge to be posted at the kiosk will remind park users that no new trails or man-made obstacles (jumps, ramps, etc.) are to be built without their consent. *Funds: Joanne reported the F.O.H.R. currently has $1375.00 in the bank. This amount does not reflect a $500.00 grant from the Scripps Howard Foundation awarded to F.O.H.R. on behalf of Jimi Flynt's volunteer work. *501c-3 Status: Joanne contacted attorney Rocky McClamroch last week and was told he would review the by-laws this week. Joanne will follow up with him. *Trail Work / Shoreline Clean-up Day: Saturday, April 6th 9:30am - 2pm Our second annual shoreline clean-up event is in conjuction with the River Rescue program. Boyd Evans will get trash bags and gloves, donated by Ijams & TVA, dropped off at the LDC on Friday. Joanne is calling Josh about using the city's walkie-talkies and release forms. Jimi will pick up lunch supplies. Boyd and Curtis Travis will create a master list and maps for volunteer assignments. Randall Hampson will try to secure a community service crew. The areas that need attention are: -Pick up trash along the peninsula shoreline (near the parking lot). -Pick up trash along Old Edgemoor Road and the entrance to soccer and Saddle (Randall's crew). -Pick up trash along the shoreline (near Kaboom). -Remove tree from Soccer Trail. -Remove tree from Five Points. *Triathlon: Sunday, April 28 Joanne is handling the logistics. The race course maps will be posted on the kiosk. The course will be marked Saturday, prior to the race. F.O.H.R. will provide course marshals. *Trail Status: Other trails that attention: -Isthmus - section between lake and pond is eroding. Needs fixing. -East Shore near the silo - need concrete culverts to divert water. -East Shore / Rachel's Landing - dangerous, steep drop-off into the lake needs immediate attention. One suggestion is benching in the trail. -Twister - need to replace washboards. -Log Bridge off Red Hill - needs fixing. -Red Hill - needs waterbreaks and rubber belting. Mark Patterson will look into renting a bobcat. *T-Shirts: Discussed ordering more F.O.H.R. short sleeve t-shirts. Kent Bailey suggested using Common Threads in Maryville. *Publicity: Will distribute trail maps and brochures to area health clubs and fitness centers. *IMBA Insurance: Jimi will look into getting IMBA insurance for F.O.H.R. workdays and events. *Norba / Torbar Cross Country Race: June or July 2002 The LDC and Highland Adventures will put the race on, with help from the F.O.H.R. Kent and Mark Patterson will work on the race course. Will need to schedule a trail work day one weekend prior to the race. *Next Meeting: Monday, April 8 @ 8pm - Ride @ 6pm before the meeting! Will elect officers.
